The Review

When it comes to having a proper desk setup, there are a few important aspects that are must-haves and lighting is one of them. However, traditional desk lamps can be bulky and in the way, especially when you’re trying to save space and going for that minimalist look.

This is why monitor light bars are such a great accessory for every desk setup. They mount directly to your monitor and can illuminate your entire desk without taking up any additional space. Most light bars will get the job done in terms of illumination and saving space, but not where they really differ are the convenience features.

The MELIFO Monitor Light Bar stands out from all other light bars with its wireless control knob. This makes it easy to control without having to reach up across your monitor to turn it on/off and control the brightness. Not to mention this will keep your desk looking clean without additional wires, which is the main reason I went with this light bar over the competition. And for $49 (at the time of writing) this simply cannot be beat.

This model offers 3 light modes – cool, warm, and a mix of both (I call it dual mode). Each mode can be triggered by clicking the wireless control. By turning the wireless knob, you can adjust the brightness in each mode. The great thing about this light bar is that it will remember the last mode and brightness level that you were on when it was last turned off.

Additionally, you can easily adjust the angle of the light bar by tilting it up and down. This comes in handy if you want extra lighting on your face for streaming in dark environments or if you need more lighting on certain areas of your desk.

The wireless control is battery powered so unlike some other models with a built-in rechargeable battery, you don’t have to replace the entire unit if the battery ever dies. The wireless knob also comes with a non-slip sticky pad on the bottom so you can have it sit in the perfect spot on your desk without worrying about it moving or getting lost.

However, if for some reason the wireless control does get lost or ends up not working for some reason, there are 2 touch buttons on the light bar itself so you can continue to use it until you get a replacement.

If you happen to be one of the cool kids these days who have a curved monitor, MELIFO also offers a curved version of their light bar. It’s a little pricier ($119 at the time of writing) but compared to other alternatives out there, this is a pretty competitive price.

The one concern most people have with light bars is the glare that it may cause on the screen. I did not experience any glare with this one, no matter how I have it angled so this should not be a concern.

As for the competition, you might’ve seen or heard of the BenQ ScreenBar Halo LED Monitor Light which is a more reputable brand with, in theory, higher quality material and better functionality. It does offer a better wireless controller with status lights and a backlight that claims to help with eye comfort. While these features are great, I couldn’t justify spending 3x more for basically the same functionality.

At the end of the day, if you’re looking a simple space saving light bar without adding more wires to your setup for a fraction of the cost of other name brand light bars, the MELIFO Monitor Light Bar may be what you’re looking for.
